Gestating Pauline!
Kevin is now 18 months old and walking full time, and hence going to bed earlier in the evenings - hooray! It’s wonderful being able to accompany him on foot to the bakery for our daily baguette, although the trip now takes 40 minutes instead of 10. For the first couple of weeks he was so thrilled to be walking by himself that he obediently followed me in a straight line, looking neither left nor right, apparently fascinated by the footpath disappearing under his feet like a conveyor belt. Alas now he has mastered the mechanics of the exercise, he can afford to be distracted by every bit of litter, fallen leaf and unsavoury doggy-do. He often changes direction in mid-stream and protests very loudly when I try to gently steer him the way I want to go. I used to be the boss in this family, but not any longer. Wish I could send him on an obedience course...
He’s not only the handsomest boy in Veneux, but also the most intelligent, naturally. He brushes his own teeth, all ten of them, knows exactly what to do with keys, shoes, the television remote control, and the button on the telephone which cuts me off when my phone calls become too long for his liking. Just about the only equipment he hasn’t mastered yet is a knife and fork (sigh).
P. has been working very hard in his new job and really needs a nice break, so we will be driving down to the Alps on Boxing Day for a snowy week in a little village near Chamonix. It’s a family vacation centre with apartments, a canteen and even a playgroup for toddlers. So, no cooking or housework for me, P. will hopefully be able to do a bit of skiing, and Kevin and I will keep up our frenetic social life with other young mums and babies. Perhaps we’ll try him out on a toboggan or a mini-luge.
So to end the year on a very happy note, we’re delighted to tell you that baby No. 2 is on the way and expected around Kevin’s second birthday next June. I’m now 4 months pregnant and feeling very energetic and healthy after those first few sickly months. Please write with your suggestions for boys’ and girls’ names that go well with our surname, because we can’t agree on anything!
