Ticklish Kevin, Happy Baby

Kevin, you are now 5 ½ months old and very busy! You sit up well on our laps, with just one hand supporting your back. Your hands are constantly moving, searching for something to hold and play with. It’s a pleasure to see how much you enjoy the many toys you have received as presents. A few months ago I strung up some pieces of tin foil in front of your bouncy chair for you to watch. Now of course you grab the string and make them move by yourself.

You are very ticklish, and when I lay you on your back to change your nappy or give you a bath, I tickle your bare chest and tummy and you burst into raucous laughter. You like rolling from your back onto your side when you’re playing on the floor, and sometimes, by bracing your heels on the floor and pushing with your legs, you manage to propel yourself backwards by a few centimetres. You don’t like to lie too long on your tummy, 5 minutes seems to be enough. However, you seem to want to stand already, because when we hold you upright with your feet resting on the floor, you push very strongly with stiffened legs and I feel sure you could support your own weight (7 ½ kg) if only you had the balance.

Your spatial awareness is much developed, and you follow our movements and anything else that interests you, by turning your head and twisting your upper body in all directions. You make a lot of different sounds now, a high-pitched “Oooooh!” when a pretty face comes on the television! You like to coo through the bubbles you blow when you dribble a lot! And the nicest thing is that we laugh together a lot, every day. You’re a real sweetie!

You’re still eating puréed carrots, but beans spinach, and artichokes now as well. And of course apples, prunes and pears.
